Kalyan Joshi

Virasat, an inheritance passed down from father to son is Phad Chitra Art. There is no better illustration of this than that of Kalyan Joshi and his artistic journey which starts in 13th century Bhilwara, where his family first began producing the traditional scroll painting called Phad. Born in 1969, he first began painting at the age of 8 with his father Shri Lal Joshi who was an acclaimed Padma Shree honoree and took the family inheritance to newer heights. He is the founder of the ‘Ankan Artist Group’. He has his works exhibited in various group shows such as Vernacular, In the Contemporary Part One: Working, curated by Jackfruit Research and Design led by Annapurna Garimella, Devi Arts Foundation, Bangalore (2011), and other shows in the USA, Dubai, Spain, France, and Australia.  He has won several awards including the ‘National Award’ by the Govt. of India (2010), the ‘National Merit Award’ by the Govt. of India (2006) & the ‘Gauri Shankar Mehta Award’, and the ‘Maru Parampara’ (2008).
