In the quiet valley of Chamba amidst the hills of Himachal Pradesh, a needle moves with measured precision. Padma Shri Lalita Valik guides it across fabric as though drafting a blueprint. She carries forward the Chamba Rumaal as a finely honed inheritance, stitched with the clarity of engineered design.
A thousand kilometres away, across the dust-lit plains of Bhilwara in Rajasthan, National Awardee Dinesh Soni brings Pichwai art back into practice—stories once sung, danced and travelled, now painted to life again.
These rare bodies of knowledge, preserved by only a handful of practitioners are lived through method and practice. For the first time ever, centuries-old tools sit beside digital grids, handmade pigments are matched to design swatches, and proportions learned from temple iconography mirror the rules of modern architecture. In a civilisation as old as memory itself, our artists hold the dexterity that forms the foundation of the Indian subcontinent.
