Bhil art, a captivating tribal art form from central India, boasts a rich history deeply connected to the Bhil people's way of life. Traditionally adorning mud walls and shrines, these paintings expressed their beliefs and connection to nature through a simple style. Bold outlines, flat perspectives, and a limited palette of natural colors depict animals, symbolic of the natural world, and scenes from daily life or mythology. The Artist

Born in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, Shanta Bhuriya belongs to the celebrated Bhil artistic lineage and is the daughter of renowned Bhil artist Bhuri Bai, one of the pioneers who brought Bhil painting from mud walls to paper and canvas. Growing up in an environment immersed in tribal art, Shanta learned the tradition from her mother while developing a visual language distinctly her own. Her paintings are characterised by rhythmic dot patterns, vibrant natural forms, and joyful depictions of birds, animals, forests, and everyday life rooted in Bhil culture. Over the years, she has participated in exhibitions and workshops across India, continuing to preserve and reinterpret one of the country's oldest living tribal art traditions for contemporary audiences.
