The Painting

The Three-Eyed Seed: This work depicts a simple oval organic form covered with fine, repeated linear marks. Three irregular dark masses interrupt its pale surface, while a small protruding form at the top gives the image the appearance of a seed, fruit, cell, or suspended organism. The delicate crosshatching creates an almost anatomical texture, while the dark marks introduce an element of disturbance. The work explores containment and vulnerability, presenting an enclosed form that carries traces of growth, transformation, and hidden life. The Weeping Hood: A large, translucent, suspended form occupies the centre of the composition, its soft contours built through graphite-like crosshatching and layered tonal washes. The form narrows toward the bottom and ends in a single dark drop, creating a quiet moment of tension. The restrained image focuses attention on weight, gravity, fragility, and the passage of time. Its ambiguity allows the form to be read simultaneously as a vessel, a bodily fragment, or an organic object undergoing change. Cleft Kernel, Taking Root: This work resembles an expanded anatomical or cellular structure, yet remains deliberately abstract. A strong central division forms the spine of the composition, while branching lines spread outward like roots, nerves, veins, or microscopic networks. Layers of black, ochre, grey, and muted orange create a weathered surface filled with stains and irregular marks. The work suggests interconnected systems of life and decay, where the body, landscape, and organic matter become visually inseparable. Tethered Thorn: The work presents an ambiguous organic form suspended within an open white field. A dark, insect-like shape anchors the lower portion while a pale, translucent body extends upward, connected by fine looping lines. Small touches of blue, yellow, and earthy tones interrupt the largely monochromatic surface. The contrast between delicate washes and sharp linear marks creates a sense of movement and fragility, allowing the image to hover between a biological specimen, a living organism, and an imagined interior landscape.
