Lepai

Lepai Art is a traditional mural art form practised by tribal communities of Chhattisgarh, where walls are decorated using natural clay, cow dung, and earth-based pigments. Known for its raised textures, simple geometric patterns, and nature-inspired motifs, the art is created during festivals, harvests, and auspicious occasions to invite prosperity and mark the rhythm of the agrarian calendar. Traditionally practised by women and passed down from mother to daughter, the designs are built up by hand directly on wet mud walls rather than painted with a brush, giving the work its characteristic relief-like texture. Originally used to adorn homes, Lepai Art continues to preserve the region's rich cultural heritage through its handcrafted beauty and timeless traditions.
