The artisans behind these mesmerizing phad paintings boast a rich lineage, with certain scrolls tracing their roots back to the 17th century.

These intricate artworks vividly narrate the tales of local deities and heroic figures, with a special emphasis on Pabuji and Devnarayan, revered by the Rabari tribe in Rajasthan. Among the Rabari community, the Bhopas, who assume the roles of priest-singers, carry these painted Phads akin to mobile temples, adding a spiritual dimension to their journeys.
