Prakash Paliwal

“O Painters of Pictures that would have enticed Mani!

Thanks to you, the days of talent have been adorned.”

-Abdi Beg Shirazi (1550-80) on painting in his seminal Two Qalam thesis

Prakash Paliwal within the bustling city of Udaipur has kept alive the tradition of Karkhana for over three decades, where miniaturists produce intricately designed paintings. Deeply rooted in tradition, his family has been revered practitioners of the renowned Rajasthani school of miniature art for generations. He leads a dedicated team of 12 skilled co-workers and family members, each contributing their expertise in creating miniature paintings. Drawing inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan, his palate is composed of colors derived from minerals, vegetables, precious stones, indigo, pure gold, and silver. This dedication to utilizing authentic and time-honoured materials adds a distinctive allure to his creations. With a seamless blend of artistic finesse and cultural legacy, Prakash Palliwal's paintings reflect the essence of Rajasthan's artistic heritage which spans back to the 16th century. Currently, he lives and practices out of his studio in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
