The Painting
A rhythmic grid of interlocking colour blocks in deep red, forest green, indigo, navy, saffron and maroon, painted in oil on paper. Rectangles of colour fit together across the paper like the pieces of a hand-stitched quilt. Some blocks stretch wide, others stand tall, and a few, like the forest-green column at the top and the maroon block on the right, run across two rows, so the grid never settles into a simple pattern. The palette moves between warm and cool: bright red, saffron and brick orange sit beside deep navy, indigo and forest green, with touches of maroon tying them together. Every colour appears more than once, scattered across the surface, which keeps the eye travelling from block to block. Up close, the oil colour is laid down in fine, close strokes that give each block a soft, woven texture, almost like fabric. Bold yet grounded, it brings warmth and structure to a living room, study or workspace.
The Artform
Contemporary art is free of fixed rules or traditions. Artists explore their own ideas, emotions and experiences through form, colour and texture. Instead of showing things exactly as they appear, this work often leans towards abstraction, with flowing shapes, soft or bold edges, and fine layered details. Colour plays a central role. Deep indigo and blue washes give calm and depth, greens and violets add richness, and touches of gold or crimson bring warmth and energy. The result is art that feels personal and open to many readings, and it brings a modern, expressive character to any space.
