Winter Threads 1: The composition is built from long, curved blue lines that travel across the cloth like stems, veins or flowing contours. Fine repeated stitches fill the spaces between these lines, creating a second layer of movement beneath the bold outlines. The limited blue-and-white palette keeps the work quiet and spacious, while the irregular hand-stitched marks make the surface visibly tactile. The traditional language of Sujini is brought into an abstract register here: instead of depicting a recognisable story or figure, the embroidery describes movement, rhythm and the structure of the surface. Winter Threads 2: Long blue contour lines sweep diagonally and horizontally across a pale ground, creating a fluid composition that resembles overlapping waves, folds or topographical lines. Within each outlined area, fine stitches change direction and density, giving the surface a subtle internal movement. The broad contours provide structure while the smaller stitches create texture. The work is a clear example of a contemporary Sujini approach in which embroidery is used as both image and surface, translating the familiar discipline of hand stitching into an expansive abstract landscape.
